Description
Our natural basil essential oil for foods is obtained from the plant with the botanical name Ocimum basilicum. The product bears the name Basil natural essential oil for food. The oil is a golden-yellow liquid with a strong, herbaceous, sweet aroma. The aroma comes from the volatile compounds that the plant deposits in its glandular hairs, located on the leaves and stems of the above-ground stalk itself. The stalk imparts the golden-yellow hue to the liquid because it is the part used for extraction. The hue is obtained after steam distillation of the stalk harvested in Bulgaria. Bulgarian plantings are maintained naturally and provide raw material of pure plant origin. The botanical family Lamiaceae counts the plant supplying this raw material among its numerous herbs that accumulate aromatic essential oils in the glandular hairs of their above-ground organs. The family encompasses many cultivated species, while the species itself is an annual with a natural range extending from tropical Asia to northern Australia. This range is far from Bulgarian fields, while the crop is grown under natural conditions. Natural cultivation determines the purity of the plant material, so the composition of the finished oil includes only the substances of the harvested herb itself. No preservatives are added to the oil. Colourants are also absent from the liquid. Distillation transfers only the volatile molecules, so the scent of the oil retains its purity and entirely follows the character of the herbal raw material. The profile of Bulgarian basil retains the intensity of the herbaceous, sweet scent. The finished liquid remains homogeneous and retains its entirely natural content.

Application
Basil essential oil, obtained by steam distillation of stalks of Ocimum Basilicum, is used in cooking as a flavouring with an intense herbaceous, sweet aroma. It is dosed in minimal amounts, as its aroma is very strong, and adding it to sauces, soups, marinades and salad dressings gives them a distinctive herbal note. It is suitable for flavouring pasta, rice and potato dishes, as well as for scenting olive oil and other vegetable fats when preparing herbal oils, vinegars and pesto. Meat, fish, eggs and vegetables gain extra freshness when combined with this oil, while it adds a delicate herbal flavour to baked goods and savoury dough products. Creamy soups and stews gain depth of flavour, and seasoning blends, glazes and spicy sauces benefit from its aroma. It is also used to flavour drinks, teas and smoothies, as well as in gourmet starters, including bruschetta and cold or warm combinations of vegetables and herbs. Since the aroma is concentrated, adding the oil to foods towards the end of cooking is recommended to preserve the volatile aromatic compounds. It is also used successfully in products with reduced salt content, where it enhances the natural perception of flavour without the need for additional seasonings.

Storage

Store natural basil essential oil in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Maintain a temperature of +5°C to +20°C to prevent oxidation and changes in quality. After opening, limit the amount of air in the packaging and, as the contents decrease, transfer the remainder to a smaller, clean and dry bottle. Use only aluminium or glass bottles for food products, preferably dark glass, which protect the essential oil for foods from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and moisture from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the quality and safety of the product for a longer period.
